Ben joined Birketts in 2020 and is an Associate in the Employment Team, based in our Norwich office. 

Ben advises clients on all manner of employment law matters, both contentious and non-contentious. Ben advises on day-to-day employee relations matters including disciplinary and grievance procedures, complex whistleblowing concerns and negotiated exits. His non contentious work includes drafting, reviewing and negotiating suites of employment contracts and documentation.

Ben regularly advises on employment tribunal claims, predominantly representing employer respondents in litigation including complex discrimination, whistleblowing and unfair dismissal claims from the conciliation stage through to final hearing. Ben has a proven track record of achieving favourable results for his clients through alternative dispute resolution, including at judicial mediation.

Ben has significant experience advising on the employment aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions, providing employment support both cross-team and direct to in-house counsel and corporate clients on sales and acquisitions. Ben has notable experience in relation to acquisitions in the Transport and Logistics sector. Ben also has experience providing large scale advice including strategic advice on the application of TUPE, collective and cross-border restructures and redundancies. Ben has a particular interest in industrial relations and trade union matters and space. In addition to his employment specialism, Ben also advises regulatory panels convened to address disciplinary and misconduct allegations against regulated persons. Ben draws on this valuable experience to the benefit of clients of his primary employment law practice.

Recent work highlights

Advised a contract research organisation on an international restructure involving several jurisdictions.

Provided employment support on the acquisition of a target group in the transport sector for consideration in excess of £20m.

Acted for an individual client alleging sexual harassment during their brief employment in the engineering sector. Successfully negotiated a settlement equivalent to approximately 22 months’ pay and an apology from their former employer.
